It is cold outside this morning. Not March cold, but mid-winter cold. A kind of cold I don't think I've ever felt this late into March. It's so cold, the witch hazel -- our fearless late-winter bloomer -- is shivering. Its flower petals are curled inward, reducing the flowers to half their normal size.
Even the Hellebores are laying prostrate in submission.
I won't even share a photo of the containers of Pericallis, Primula and Viola I planted last weekend. While the witch hazel and Hellebores will spring back once the temperature returns to normal, I'll be surprised if these spring annuals survive the next couple of nights of below-freezing temperatures.
It would be an understatement to say I'm ready for spring to arrive -- and stay a while.
