What started as a short trip outside to water some of the newly purchased, but still container bound plants turned into a productive and inspiring evening. After giving the new arrivals a fresh drink, I realized there was enough time to get the final three 'Emerald Green' arborvitae in the ground before dusk fell. So I grabbed my shovel and went to work. About 45 minutes later, all the new trees were in the ground and well-soaked.
As I was checking on the fourth tree, planted on the corner of our raised vegetable garden, I heard something scamper inside the center bed. If it wasn't Peter and his siblings in their own 72 square foot version of Mr. McGregor's garden. The mother doe must have been out and about, as her litter froze silently under the seating edge that runs the border of the vegetable bed. While I may be cursing them for their carnage later this summer, it was an amazing sight to behold the newest of life.
A wonderful way to end a beautiful, productive spring evening in the garden.
