Before Christmas, I wrote of my pledge to bring my wife flowers all winter long, so that our home always had the cheer of blooms no matter the weather outside. So far, so good. We've gone the entire first month of winter with at least one vase full of fresh blooms.
To my surprise, my wife contributed to the cause by bringing me home a florist's cyclamen last week. It's a gorgeous red variety with dark green, uniquely variegated leaves. The blooms draw out the red of the Scheurich ceramic cachepot in which I placed the container. The cyclamen is gracing our dining room table as a centerpiece, a bright reminder of my wife's thoughtfulness.
The way to a man's heart is supposedly through his stomach, but not me. I'll take plants over pizza, flowers over flapjacks any day of the year.
