The first heavy frost of autumn fell on the garden last night, folding petals and foliage and marking the end of the growing season here at Cherry Creek. Many of the fallen leaves scattered over the lawn and landscape were edged in tiny ice crystals. Rose petals curled ever so slightly in response to the cold.Later in the day, as the wind ushered the chill of winter, the first snowflakes of the season fell with sporadic abandon. The first flakes carried with them a hint of nostalgia, remembering winters past, and a good bit of anticipation of the winter yet to come.
