This fall, we'll see the launch of two new magazines focusing on gardening design and lifestyle. Both are online-only publications (an economically smart and environmentally sound decision by the publishers) that focus on plants and gardening as an integral part of our daily environment -- both inside and out.

The first, Growing Style, is published by Costa Farms, one of the leading houseplant growers in the country. Growing Style includes articles about growing houseplants successfully, the benefits of indoor plants, and using plants to decorate your home. My favorite aspect of the first issue (now available on the web at http://www.growingstylemag.com/ and also via apps for iPad, iPhone and Android) is "The Grower Knows," an interview about caring for houseplants with Mike Rimland, one of Costa's main growers.

The second, Leaf Magazine, is a joint venture of Susan Cohan, Rochelle Greayer and Lynn Fellici-Gallant. Through Leaf, these three garden communicators aim to inspire readers to look at outdoor garden design in new, achievable ways. Current garden design publications tend to feature landscapes that are far outside the scale and budget constraints of the average gardener. With its promise to focus on design that is "both aspirational and accessible," I'm looking forward to how Leaf brings the concepts of garden design within reach. The first issue will be launched in October 2011. You can sign up for free at http://leafmag.com/ .

I'm excited to see these two new ventures hit the garden publishing market to help gardeners new and old think about incorporating plants in ways that both mesh with and enhance our daily lives.
