Stocking Up....While Supplies Last

Green View has announced that they will be closing retail operations in Champaign, IL at the end of the year, due to poor sales. Normally, a going-out-of-business sale at a garden center would send me into a frenzy of expectation as I wondered how drastically they would cut prices to move inventory. But Green View is my favorite local nursery. The quality of their plants was superb and their knowledgeable, friendly staff made it a pleasure to shop there. When I had a specific plant in mind, Green View was the place I'd go, even knowing I'd pay a higher price than at a box store. Unfortunately, there must not be enough like-minded customers who are willing to pay higher prices for quality product and service.

Though I am saddened at Green View's closing, I'll be stocking up on Green View Grown plants for my garden as they whittle down their inventory this fall. So far, I've purchased a number of plants, with prices ranging from $1-6 each.
  • Iris sibirica 'Butter and Sugar' (Siberian Iris)
  • Iris sibirica 'Eric the Red' (Siberian Iris)
  • Achillea mollis 'Strawberry Seduction' (Yarrow)
  • Salvia nemerosa 'Caradonna' (Meadow Sage)
  • Campanula punctata 'Cherry Bells' (Bellflower)
  • Digitalis x mertonensis (Strawberry Foxglove)
  • Hibiscus 'Sweet Caroline' (Rose Mallow)
  • Aster novae-angliae 'Purple Dome' (New England Aster)
  • Belamcanda chinensis (Blackberry Lily)
  • Pardancanda norrisii (Candylily)
I am hoping as fall progresses, prices on shrubs will come down further from their current 30-40% off. I'm in the market for some understory shrubs for my shade garden, and I'd like to keep Green View growing in my garden for many years to come.
