Generosity To Remember

Whenever I receive a monetary gift, I make an attempt to spend it on something long-lasting that will help remind me of the giver when I use it. This week, I received such a gift from my mother, and (at my wife's suggestion) looked to put it towards something for my garden. After considering an investment in one or the larger garden projects I'm planning this upcoming year, it occurred to me there was something even better.

Photography.

My shooting arsenal has been short a long lens since my Tamron AF 70-300mm started acting up a while ago. I shoot primarily with a Canon 50mm f/1.8, but am often at a loss when a subject requires a longer reach.

I decided to invest my mother's generosity toward a Canon 55-250mm lens that will be the perfect complement to my 18-55mm and 50mm lenses. Along with a new camera backpack and portable tripod, the new zoom lens gives me a pretty complete toolkit not only for garden photography, but also for my son's baseball and scouting activities. I'm sure my mother won't mind getting more photos of her grandson in action.

Here's a look at the first shots of my garden using the new lens. At first blush, I'm impressed.

Antirrhinum 'Liberty Classic'

Weigela 'Red Prince'

Hydrangea 'Twist and Shout'

Geranium

Aronia 'Brilliantissima'

Gazania 'New Day Bronze Shades'

Clematis 'Jackmanii'

Euonymous alatus
I'm so looking forward remembering my mother's generosity for years to come as I capture moments in our family and in my garden.

Thanks, Mom. :D
