The heat of summer returned today, not with the vengeance it had in late July, but with enough humid spite to sap your energy if you stayed too long in it. My eyes were sagging and feet were dragging as I walked from up the driveway to the front door upon returning home. But the challenges of the day disappeared as I caught sight of the large box with PERISHABLE ... RUSH ... LIVE PLANTS printed on the side in large letters, courtesy of Costa Farms, a grower located in Gould, Florida.
I'd been contact a few weeks earlier by Costa Farms to see if I was interested in growing some of their plants in my home and garden, and I eagerly agreed. Costa Farms specializes in tropicals and houseplants, both of which I've been getting more interested in lately.
Opening the box felt like the holidays, as I unveiled the expertly-packaged plants to discover each species beneath the brown paper wrapping.
Today's delivery was literally a breath of fresh air. Inside the box was a collection of plants from Costa Farms O2 for You houseplant series, including Dieffenbachia sp., Dracaena reflexa 'Song of India', Nephrolepis exaltata (Boston Fern), Spathiphyllum sp. (Peace Lily), and Zamioculcas zamiifolia.
Each of the plants presents a unique color and texture, and will provide a wonderful compliment and contrast to many of the other foliage plants in the outdoor garden.

I plan to group them on the back deck until cooler weather sets in, then move them to various places of the house for the cold months -- including a few in my home office to keep me company (and well oxygenated) as I sit at my computer writing about the winter garden and dreaming about the coming spring.
