First Snow: An Enticing Tease

We woke up yesterday to a light dusting of snow, our first official accumulation of the season. Low temperature and overcast skies kept the snow around for a good part of the day, but it was all gone by late afternoon.

I look forward to snow in late fall and winter. Not only does snow cover help protect the garden from the harshness of winter, it also hides the ugly side of the dormant season and brightens the cold days of December through February. As a garden photographer, a snow-covered winter landscape is a most agreeable subject.

While yesterday's snow wasn't even enough to hide the browning blades of our lawn, it gave us a enticing tease of the coming beauty of the winter garden.
