When does a gardener cross that threshold and become known for a particular genus of plants that he grows? When does affection for a plant become obsession? I don't think I'm quite there yet, but as I walked around our house tonight I counted 19 varieties of coleus (Solenostemon hybrids) growing in containers and raised gardens.Since coleus is such an easy plant to grow from cuttings, these annuals are effectively perennials as long as you have grow lights and the space to grow them indoors during the winter. My collection continues to grow each year, as I find new varieties that catch my eye.
Here are the cultivars growing in my garden this summer.
