What's Wrong with My Norfolk Island Pine?

Over the course of the past two weeks, the Norfolk Island Pine I've been growing in my house since last fall has gone into sudden decline. First, the upper braches  began to droop. Many interior branches turned brown. Upon close inspection, nearly all the branch nodes on the affected areas had turned black.

Does anyone know what disease or pest is affecting my Norfolk Island Pine?
